The Jan Paweł II Polish Bilingual Program

is proud to celebrate its

25th Anniversary

welcome to st. basil school

Open House

Thursday, March 11

7:00pm

St. Basil School is home to one of the most unique programs offered to students from kindergarten through to grade nine.  Every year, the children have exceeded both provincial and district averages on Provincial Achievement exams in all subject areas.

For twenty-five years, our Jan Paweł II Polish Bilingual-Program is considered to be one of the best places for students to immerse themselves in Polish language and culture.  Our grade nine classes have the opportunity to challenge a high school level Polish course to obtain five credits before entering high school.

We take pleasure in celebrating days like Dożynki (Harvest Festival), Andzejki, Wszytkich Świętych(All Saints' Day), Dzień Zaduszny (All Souls' Day), Mikolaj (St. Nicholas' Day), Opłatek (Holy Waffer), Szopka (Polish Nativity Scene), Tłusty Czwartek (Fat Thursday before Lent), and Trzeciego Maja (Polish Constitution Day).  We have a loving relationship with the Polish Combatants who attended our school for Remembrance Day celebrations.  Our kindergarten students this year visited the Polish Veterans home.

Along with our Polish traditions, we are strong in our Catholic beliefs and values.  Closely connected with our parishes, the Holy Rosary Church (just steps away so that we can attend mass) and Our Lady Queen of Poland, we provide a wonderful faith-based education.  We have the priests and nuns come into the classes to prepare students for First Holy Communion & Confirmation.

We strongly believe in our community and provide programs such as English as a Second Language, French as a Second Language (grades 4-9), and Daily Physical Activity. Our students demonstrate high academic results throughout our grades. We also provide fantastic artistic programs such as band, art, drama, foods, fashion design, film studies, and photography.

Our staff is diverse in many fields such as Reading Recovery and we have a music specialist on site.

We hope that you can find our site informative and it can help you learn more about our school.

Message from our principal

Welcome to St. Basil! In this community you will meet a most professional staff who will welcome you warmly and provide many outstanding opportunities to your children that will enable them to grow spiritually and academically in wondrous ways. As a catholic school we have the opportunity to give our children a faith based education giving them a vision of the world that is counter cultural, founded in the message of the gospel and that will, in the end meet our mandate as a Catholic system: to truly transform the world. Children who graduate from our school will be peaceful people who will reach out to those in need and offer their gifts, talents and resources to any community they choose to live in.

This school is home to two district programs. One is the Jan Paweł II or John Paul the Second Polish bilingual program. It is the only publicly funded program of its kind in North America and offers programming in grades kindergarten through to grade nine. You will find that we excel in provincial testing because staff, students and parents work hard to achieve the very best.

The other program is relatively new to Edmonton Catholic Schools. It is the Jean Forest Leadership Academy for girls. We now offer a full junior high program to our young ladies with a focus on teaching leadership skills through special seminars, guest speakers and everyday practice. Please visit our site for more information.

St. Basil provides yellow bus transportation from every quadrant of our city. Upon arrival we do every thing in our power to provide a safe and caring environment to students that includes a closed campus. This simply means that no student is permitted to leave campus during the school day without direct adult supervision.
